It was illegal to kill horses for human consumption here in the U.S. until 2011.   That's when the measure Congress had in place to prevent it lapsed.  

Now dozens of companies are applying for permits with the U.S Department of Agriculture to be able to slaughter horses for food.   Meanwhile, the USDA says it wants the horse-killing ban reinstated.   But they say that without the ban, they are compelled to grant these companies approval.

There is public outcry however, and according to Fox News, some of the companies that have applied have been the target of threats and vandalism.  One of those is the Valley Meat Company in New Mexico.  They report bomb threats and several break-ins.    How do you feel?
