Selena Gomez to Appear at Global Citizen Festival
Selena Gomezis taking her famous name and using it towards a really great cause.
The singer/actress is all set to lead an incredible lineup of do-gooders at the Global Citizen Festival to help put an end to poverty. The festival will take place in New York City’s Central Park and will be streamed live on Sept. 29 and 30, and is being labeled as the “largest syndicated charity concert in online and broadcast tv history.”
As an ambassador for U.S. Fund for UNICEF, Gomez will be representing the organization, and will be joined by the likes of Katie Couric, Jeffrey Sachs, Jack Dorsey, Minka Kelly, Sophia Bush, Olivia Wilde, Katharine McPhee, and Erin Heatherton.
“This September, as the world’s leaders gather in New York for the UN General Assembly, the Global Citizen Festival will bring top artists and 60,000 change makers together on the Great Lawn of Central Park on September 29 to urge our leaders and fellow citizens to do more to help end extreme poverty,” read the Global Citizen site.
“This advocacy concert will celebrate the progress already made in fighting extreme poverty, secure financial commitments for tackling extreme poverty and disease, and mobilise thousands of ambassadors for change,” the site continued. “We’ll unite around a simple yet powerful idea: that by giving every child a chance to thrive, our generation can end extreme poverty.”
