School Committee Appoints Interim Special Ed Director

In light of recent issues in the Special Education Department, the New Bedford School Committee appointed an Interim Executive Director to take charge.

Kimberli Bettencourt will be in charge of Special Education and Support Services beginning in January.

Supt. Dr. Pia Durkin looks forward to Bettencourt joining the Main Office.

Committee member Dr. Larry Finnerty has worked with Bettencourt in the past and says she has what it takes to fill the position.

Durkin says her office will post an advertisement for the permanent position in Feburary.

She also tells WBSM News Betttencourt is both certified and qualified to fill the position.
