A man pretending to be from National Grid has been showing up in Tiverton neighborhoods and police are warning the public to be on alert.

Police say they have received several complaints about a man going to Tiverton homes and identifying himself as from National Grid.

He shows up advising residents that they have unpaid bills and their electricity will be shut off if they don't pay up.

The man reportedly has a white van with a magnetic National Grid logo on it, but he does not represent National Grid.

Police are reminding the public that National Grid will not show up at your home to tell you that you have unpaid bills. They will contact you by phone first, always.

They are advising those that may be approached by this man to NOT give him any money and to please get a description of him and/or his vehicle and license plate number and then pass the information on to police.
