The winter is a killer on hair & skin.  The dry air can leave your tresses looking brittle and your skin looking flaky. Boo! The skin is the body's largest organ. Here are some tips from our friends at Avalon Medical Spa on how to protect your skin while also keeping yourself looking young.

  1. Protect yourself from the sun everyday. Overexposure to the sun can cause premature signs of aging, wrinkling and sun spots. SPF 30 or higher should be used in your daily moisturizer to keep those harmful UV rays from wreaking havoc.
  2. Drink lots of water! Hydration starts from inside out.  Just as you take time to wash your face every morning, be sure to get 8 glasses of water per day minimally to keep a young and youthful glow.
  3. Eat a healthy diet. Try to avoid foods that are processed. Natural foods, fruits and veggies, possess antioxidants that keep you and your skin healthy.
  4. Exercise. Nothing beats that post workout glow! That hue of pink is nature's rouge.
  5. Reduce stress- It's a killer. from premature grays to premature wrinkles.  We've all seen that friend from high school who looks like she could have graduated 10 years before you did. Unfortunately, life throws a lot at us. Find a healthy center and don't sweat the small stuff.
  6. And finally, ease up on the drinking and smoking.  Both are so bad for you. If you're vain, the premature aging should be reason enough to quit. And it's bad for your teeth. While one glass of wine with dinner is said to be good for your heart, a bottle of wine at dinner is bad for EVERYTHING!
