One of the most looked at humpback whales in the U.S. gave birth to her 14th documented calf... It's name is Sriracha!

Salt, the mamma whale of a new calf has been researched for 41 years and counting... since the mid-1970's.  Aaron Avellar named her Salt because of the white specks on her dorsal fin.  According to Cape Cod Times, Avellar was given the right to name Salt's calves, relating all of the names to salt. Some of the babies names are; Crystal, Halos, Brine, Salsa, and Tabasco.  When Aaron passed away, his son Chad was given the honor of taking over in his fathers place and naming the new calves as they are born.  Wasabi, Soya, Epsom, and last but not least, Sriracha are the other calves names.

Salt's family tree consists of 31 known children, grandchildren, and great-grand children. Scientists do not know the gender of the newest member of the family or when exactly it was born but are examining it and researching photos of the calf.

Salt and her family can be seen in the Gulf of Maine multiple times in one season.
