A road closure will be in effect Friday morning in Fall River.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced on Thursday that the area of Brownell St. between North Court St. and Thompson St. will be closed to vehicular traffic.

The closure begins at 7 a.m. and will last for approximately one month.

MassDOT officials say roadway will be open to local traffic only, no through traffic, and that access to residences will be maintained at all times.

Detour signage will be in place with the detour route being Brownell St., to Thompson St., to President Ave., to Boomer St. and back to Brownell St.

MassDOT says the closure is needed so crews can install steel beams and deck panels on the railroad bridge over Brownell St.

The closure was originally scheduled to begin on Thursday but was rescheduled due to recent inclement weather.
