REPORT: Boston’s Top Cop, William Evans, Retiring

BOSTON — The leader of the Boston Police Department is stepping down.

The Boston Globe reports that Police Commissioner William Evans will announce his retirement later today.

The 59-year-old joined the force as a cadet in 1980, and rose through the ranks until being appointed commissioner in 2013 following the retirement of Ed Davis.

Rumors have swirled since earlier this month that Evans will accept a position as chief of Boston College Police in August.
