It has finally happened. All of the rumors and speculation can be put to rest because cbssports.com insider John Haymen has announced that the Red Sox have sent Jon Lester to the Oakland Athletics.

The Sox will reportedly get all-star and reigning Homerun Derby Champ Yoenis Cespedes back from Oakland. Oakland will also get outfielder Johnny Gomes, to complete the deal.

Wow! I'm stunned right now! This is a great deal for the Sox. I mean, there were a lot of teams in on Lester and a lot of solid prospects being mentioned, but in baseball "good prospects" come a dime a dozen. To say that they snagged a star who has a track record of Major League success is huge! It's a great move, really. I'm surprised that the A's parted ways with Cespedes, although they do have a plethora of outfielders in their system. This move, on the A's part, just shows that they are really making a push to get the the fall classic this year.

With the possibility that Boston could still resign Lester, in the off season, they could really have a HUGE steal with this.
