Just a couple of months after announcing that he was stepping away from his role as manager of the Boston Red Sox, due to an ongoing battle with cancer, John Farrell has received great news; he's in remission.

A report by the Boston Herald says that the Red Sox announced, earlier today, that Farell's battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Burkitt lymphoma had moved into remission.

Farrell left the team on August 14, shortly after he was diagnosed during the season.

In a brief statement on the team's website Farrell expressed his thanks for al of the support he has received through the past few months. he also talked about his excitement to rejoin the club next season.

"I am extremely thankful for the outpouring of support I have received from the Red Sox, my family, friends, and fans throughout this process. I am also especially thankful for the talented doctors who cared for me in Detroit and here at MGH. I look forward to getting back to work and bringing another championship back to Boston."

Boston's president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski, had announced a few weeks ago that Farrell would retain his job when he was healthy enough to return.
