NEW BEDFORD - One man is arrested after allegedly breaking into a cell phone store in the north end.

New Bedford Police say officers responded to the Metro PCS store at 209 Coggeshall Street on a report of a break in progress around 4 a.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived they observed a broken window and shortly after saw a male fleeing from the scene. Officers gave chase and eventually caught up to the male a few blocks away.

Police arrested the man, Brent Prescott, 23, of New Bedford, and charged him with vandalizing property and breaking and entering in the night time with intent to commit a felony. Prescott also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Prescott was unable to steal anything from the store due to the quick response by police.
