The Providence School Board may ask the state for permission to trim the school year due to all the recent storms, so should other schools follow suit?

ABC6 reported that the board is expected to vote tonight to seek the reduction that would trim this school year by one day.

After six days of cancellations due to snow, the Providence school year is set to end on June 26th. If there are any more snow days added that would place students in school during the week of the 4th of July.

Schools are required to be open at least 180 days, but are also allowed to ask for emergency reductions. Providence is citing the governor's Jan. 27 state of emergency declaration in their petition.

So if they are granted permission to shorten the school year, should other school boards do the same?

Would you like to see similar measures taken by Southcoast schools to prevent school days in July?
