UPDATE (5:35 P.M.) - WBSM News Reporter Tim Dunn is at the scene and says that four people involved in the protest have been arrested in connection to the incident.

Dunn says protesters could be seen and heard verbally berating members of law enforcement as they were taken into custody.

Protesters that had been chained to the fence at "Entrance 2" at the Bristol County House of Correction were safely freed and placed under arrest.

This story will be updated.

DARTMOUTH — Multiple law enforcement agencies and emergency responders are on the scene near 400 Faunce Corner Road in Dartmouth where a small gathering of protesters have apparently chained themselves to a fence on the property of the Bristol County House of Correction.

The Dartmouth Police Department confirms that at least two people chained themselves to a fence at "Entrance 2" at the Bristol County Sheriff's Office shortly before 4 p.m.

Police, along with the Dartmouth Fire Department and members of the Bristol County House of Correction staff are at the scene. Detective Kyle Costa tells WBSM News that officers with the Dartmouth Police Department are there to serve as support to the BCSO staff, as the Sheriff's Department has jurisdiction.

It is not clear exactly how many protesters were gathered at the BCSO, or what they are protesting. Earlier this summer, however, a number of protesters held demonstrations near the property of the Sheriff's Office, protesting what they claim are poor conditions within the House of Correction, including less-than-nutritious meals and uncomfortably warm temperatures within the inmates' cells.

Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson is not at the House of Correction today, as he was attending a ceremony hosted by President Donald Trump at the White House honoring members of law enforcement entitled "The Salute to the Heroes of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Patrol."
