The Powerball jackpot has grown to over $400 million and there's a frenzy for tickets at lottery retailers across the country. So are you buying a ticket?

Many people who never play Powerball are getting tickets for the drawing on January 6, 2016 (myself included!), but many want to do more than just grab a Quick Pick.

The odds of winning the over $400 million jackpot are 1 in 292 million, but are there numbers can you play to increase your odds?

Dr. Min Su Kim, who teaches statistics at Southern University says there are certain numbers that are better to play than others.

Dr. Kim did the research on 10 years worth of Powerball drawings and found that there are numbers that have won thousands of people money.

Here's Dr. Kim's top 5 red Powerball numbers...

20 is the most drawn number in Powerball in the last decade. Followed by 37, 2, 31 and 35.

As for the white numbers...

The most popular number is 42. Then 16, 35, 26 and 19.

Dr. Kim also says pigs represent good fortune, so don't think that playing his Powerball numbers will automatically win you millions..though you never know!
