Power Outage Affecting Over 1,000 Customers

Many local residents are waking up to a power outage this morning.

Eversource spokesman Mike Durand told WBSM News that as of 5:30 a.m. just under 1,700 customers were without power in an outage that includes areas of New Bedford, Acushnet, and South Dartmouth.

Durand says power should be restored to New Bedford High School.

Keith Middle School is expected to regain power shortly.

Durand says the remaining customers should have power restored within an hour.

Although the exact cause of the outage hasn't been determined Durand says the issue is likely a problem with an underground cable.
