We may be inching closer to answering the "Why" question.  Fox News is reporting that Adam Lanza's motive for Friday's massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School may have been because he was upset that his mother was planning to have him involuntarily committed to a mental health facility.

The article sites 25 year old Joshua Flashman as a source, a lifelong Newtown resident familiar with the killer's family and some of the victims' families.  Flashman thinks the killer attacked the children at the school because he thought Lanza's mother loved them more than she loved him.

"Adam was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed.  (He) was apparently very upset about this. He thought she just  wanted to send him away. From what I understand, he was really, really angry. I  think this could have been it, what set him off."  -Joshua Flashman

Flashman told Fox News that Adam Lanza attended the Sandy Hook School as a boy, and said Nancy Lanza was a kindergarten volunteer there for several years.  Most of Lanza's victims were first graders that sources believe Nancy Lanza may have worked with last year. This was, apparently, his way of getting back at her.

Flashman said nobody will ever fully know what drove Adam to do what he did.

“No one can explain Adam Lanza besides God and Adam Lanza, and I don’t even think Adam Lanza could explain Adam Lanza, to be honest with you.”
