BOSTON - The two surviving crewmembers injured in an explosion on a bulk-carrier 1,300 miles off of Cape Cod have been medevaced to Portugal.

The U.S. Coast Guard in Boston says the crewmembers were airlifted from the bulk-carrier Tamar at 4:30 a.m. by a Portuguese aircrew along with three New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing pararescuers to continue medical care.

The aircrew arrived in Terceira Island in the Azores around 7 a.m., where a Portuguese Air Force Jet staffed with a medical team was waiting to fly the injured crewmembers to Lisbon for medical treatment.

Two crewmembers were killed as the result of an explosion on the Marshall Islands-flagged 623-foot bulk carrier Monday morning.
