Pope’s Resignation: Sign of the End of the World?

Getty Images

I always thought that being the Pope was a lifetime gig, but apparently not.  For the first time in nearly 600 years, a pope will call it quits before his death.  Now, some are saying it’s a sign of the Apocalypse.

According to the first Irish saint, St. Malachy…today’s shocking announcement from the Vatican that the Pope will be resigning could be a sign of the End of Days. The 12th Century Saint had a vision of the next 112 popes. There have bee 111 since, and after Benedict the 16th resigns on February 28th, we’ll be on number 112. St. Malachy predicted that this would be the final pope before the world ends.

To make things even more interesting, Malachy predicted that this pope would be named “Peter the Roman”. There hasn’t been a pope named Peter since the original Apostle named Peter. Malachy also said he thought this final pope would be black. Guess who is considered the front runner to be the next pope? His name is Peter Turkson. He’s a black cardinal in Ghana, and his name has been tossed around in the past as a strong candidate.

Amazingly, St. Malachy also predicted that Benedict the 16th would launch the first Papal Twitter account, setting off further signs of the rapture.  Actually, I just completely made that last part up.
