NEW BEDFORD - A New Bedford teen is arrested after allegedly stealing a scooter and assaulting two people who confronted him.

New Bedford Police say Dangel Molina, 18, of New Bedford, had used a pair of bolt cutters to steal a scooter from Bom Apetite restaurant on Belleville Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

A 62-year-old woman who had witnessed Molina using the bolt cutters to cut the cable that was securing the scooter confronted him. Molina allegedly attacked the Good Samaritan with the bolt cutters, hitting her in the arm and causing minor injuries.

Molina fled the scene and was confronted a short distance away by the scooter's owner, who he then reportedly struck in the face. The owner was transported to St. Luke's Hospital with minor injuries.

Police arrested Molina and charged him with possession of a burglarious instrument, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, larceny over $250, assault and battery, and unarmed robbery.

The scooter was recovered and returned to the owner.
