A pig has apparently run away from home in Barnstable and police are trying to find him.

NECN.com, the 125-lb pig escaped earlier this week and has been evading police and animal control officers.

The pig's owners say they had just gotten the animal from someone else and their children were playing with it when it escaped. The gate to the pig's pen was apparently not latched correctly and it was able to get out.

Several residents in the Centreville section of town have reported seeing it over the last few days and the most recent sighting was at 11:10 a.m. on Thursday.

The pig got away from animal control officers twice already, with officer Charlie Lewis telling the site,

The pig doesn't want to be caught. I missed it with my leash and there was a guy behind me helping out who grabbed it and wrestled it, but it got away. Another time I had it under my  net and it flipped the net and me!"

Animal control officers say the pig is friendly, so the public does not have to be afraid of it. Anyone who sees the pig is asked to contact Barnstable Animal Control at (508)790-6274.
