Despite the tremendous comeback and thrilling 27-26 win over the New York Giants, Sunday, the New England Patriots took another big hit to their offense, losing Julian Edelman to a broken foot.

On the final play of the first quarter, wide receiver Julian Edelman came up lame after making a third down catch to prolong the team's current drive. Edelman immediately left the game and was tended to by medical staff on the sideline. A few moments later he was ushered back to the team's locker room, which he never returned from.

After the team's win, reports broke that Edelman suffered a broken foot on the play and will require surgery that is set for Monday.

The blow is the second one in as many weeks to a key member of the team's offense, as running back Dion Lewis was lost for the season last week after tearing his ACL against the Washington Redskins.

Fox Sports, who first broke the news of Edelman's injury, has also reported that the team is hoping that the dynamic pass catcher will be able to rejoin the team by the postseason.

With Edelman on the shelf for the time being, the team will most likely look to receiver Danny Amendola to pick up the slack. Amendola played well on Sunday, making 10 catches for 79 yards and returning a punt 82 yards. He also made a few big catches on the team's final drive, including an 11-yard grab on fourth and 10 and the final catch that set up kicker Stephen Gostkowski's game winning field goal.

Edelman had been on pace to set career highs in receptions and receiving yards this season. He had already set a new career high in touchdown receptions, earlier this season.
