The NFL's trade deadline came and went today and while there was speculation the the New England Patriots might make a move to bolster their roster, the team did not complete a trade.

Though they've been one of the more active teams in terms of making trades, over the past few years, New England's propensity to snag undervalued talent from another team didn't come to fruition this year.

The Patriots had been in the market for help in the defensive backfield and had been rumored to maybe be looking for depth along the interior line, especially at the tackle position.

The major problem, though, was that there was a shortage of available players up for grabs at those positions this season.

There were no Aquib Talib's this go around like there was a few years ago when the Pats needed a shut down corner.

There was rumor circulating earlier today that the Patriots were interested in reuniting safety Devin McCourty with his twin brother Jason, who plays at defensive back for the Tennessee Titans. As the day moved along, the potential deal seemed to break down presumably over compensation.

All in all, there wasn't one real, potentially difference-making  player out there for the taking so the Pats walked away without a deadline move for the first time in three years. Instead of giving up drafts picks for a shot in the dark, New England will move forward with what they've got and what the waiver wire offers for the rest of the season. That might not be a bad deal at all.
