In a couple somewhat shocking moves, it appears that the New England Patriots are moving on from running back Jonas Gray and wide receiver Reggie Wayne.

The Providence Journal's Mark Daniels first reported that the Pats had cut Gray earlier today, after the running back did not join the team on the practice field.

ESPN's Field Yates followed up that report by saying that New England was still looking to make a trade to recoup something for Gray before they released him.

As it turns out, no other team bit on the Pats' line and Gray was released by the 4:00 pm deadline.

Another big story from the day is the fact that veteran receiver Reggie Wayne asked the Pats for his release from his contract. According to Chris Wesseling of NFL.com, Wayne asked for and was granted his release.

A move to retirement might be in the mix for the 14-year veteran, who previously spent his entire career with the Indianapolis Colts.
