A group of New Bedford area health professionals will be taking part in a town hall forum Wednesday night that will focus on the region's ongoing opioid crisis.

Among those taking part will be Dr. Michael Rocha who told Fun 107's Rock and Fox Show that the for will have information for families who are hoping to prevent their loved ones from becoming addicted as well as those looking to overcome addiction.

"The first thing is making sure that we're all educated about what the risks and the dangers are and pitfalls to avoid to go down that path," said Rocha "and also it's about recognizing for people that have had issues, where to get resources."

Rocha says they will also be telling stories about those who won their battle with addiction.

"We really will be able to show tonight there are stories of hope, there are people who have recovered, and those are the things that we need to learn from in order to move forward and do the best job that we can," said Rocha.

While there will be a great deal of information provided Rocha says the audience will also be asked to provide their input.

"We're going to ask our community with a question and answer section at the end what we need to learn from people that have either had issues in their own family or what things we can do to do better to help our community," said Rocha.

The question and answer segment will be moderated by WBSM's Phil Paleologos.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center at 684 Purchase St. in New Bedford.
