Note the question mark.  It may be a true statement, but personally I'm not sure.  I'm thinking a flu shot may be best.   However, Lauren Feder, who is a medical doctor and the author of "Natural Baby and Childcare" has some other ideas. The Dr. says some time-tested treatments can lessen the cold or flu bug's symptoms and speed recovery for both adults and children.

Some of her recommendations are:   Get plenty of rest. Avoid sweets, daily and junk food.  Wash your hands often.   Eat plenty of garlic.  Place a sliced onion on the night stand to act as a decongestant and assist breathing while you are sleeping, and drink lots of warm fluids.   They seem like common sense things to do.   I may avoid the garlic, but an onion or two in my room at night?  Why not?
