UPDATE (12:50 p.m.): The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Brian Charles, Jr. of Brockton. 

This morning at about 5:20 a.m., troopers from the Dartmouth Barracks responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Route 24 southbound prior to Exit 17 in Brockton which resulted in a fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Michael Moitoza indicates that a 2012 Volkswagen Passat was traveling on Route 24 southbound when, for reasons still under investigation, it veered to the left of the roadway, struck the median barrier and rolled over.  The operator and sole occupant, Brian Charles Jr, 22, of Brockton, was ejected from the vehicle and determined to be deceased at the scene.

All three lanes of Rte. 24 southbound were closed for approximately 3 ½ hours for the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation with assistance from members of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

State Police were assisted on scene by Brockton Fire and EMS, as well as MassDOT. No further information is available at this time.

BROCKTON - Authorities say one person has died in an early morning crash on Route 24 in Brockton.

State police say the southbound car rolled over just after 5 a.m. Friday.

The lone occupant of the vehicle died.

No other vehicles were involved.

The victim's name was not immediately made public.

The crash was causing major delays in both directions during the morning commute. All three southbound travel lanes were closed and traffic was only being allowed to pass in the breakdown lane.
