I rode on the ol "Shamonchi" many times when I was younger. My Uncle and Aunt would take me with them on their yearly visit to Martha's Vineyard.

What I remember most is that everyone pronounced the name of the boat differently.

It was no luxury liner by any means, but it was "Our" ferry and I' sure holds many great memories for lots of us.

Now, the New York Post has found our old ship, and its sitting in shallow water in Brooklyn New York. Its also home to a group of hipsters living on it and its been converted to a squatter-style crash pad According to Steve Urbon of the Standard Times, New Bedford MAY want it back.
