Odd Town Names in Eastern Massachusetts

When I lived in Arizona, I came across some weird town names.  There was Carefree, Nothing, Cowlick, and even a Chloride, Arizona.  But here in eastern Massachusetts, there are some equally odd names.

Topping the list is Sandwich.  According to the town's website, Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod.  Just thinking about the name of this beautiful town makes me hungry.  Is there a "Sandwich" sandwich shop?

Next on the list is the Boston suburb of Braintree.  This historic city was the birthplace of Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams.  But you have to admit, Braintree is a weird name.

It's back to the Cape for the next one.  That's Mashpee.  It is one of the most beautiful towns on Cape Cod.  Maybe it's just the combination of syllables that makes the name a bit odd.

Here's one that sounds like it was taken from a Harry Potter book.  However, Teaticket is a very real place on Cape Cod.

Honerable mention:  This town is not here in eastern Massachusetts, but it is located in the Bay State.  The small community is just north of the Mass Pike near Springfield.  But where did the name Belchertown come from?  This is the town you'd need to visit to see a mini Fenway Park.  Hopefully the residents don't try to live up to the town's name.
