If your phone rings and and the caller tells you they are from N-Star, and that your electricity will be shut off within hours.

The utility advises you to hang up with them and call NStar as soon as you can.   NStar says some of their customers have been called by potential thieves.   They tell the customer that their electricity will be shut off if they don't make a payment within one to four hours.

The customer is then told they can only pay by using a Green Dot card that can be purchased at pharmacies and convenience stores.  They are then given a call-back number.  From there, the scammer walks the customer through the payment process.  If you do receive such a call, please hang up immediately and call 1-800-592-2000.
