With Hurricane Sandy now behind most of us on the Southcoast, we can say we are very fortunate in comparison to those who were hit head on by the hurricane in New York and New Jersey. I consider myself to be very lucky. I saw some trees come down in my neighborhood, but aside from the flicker of lights, I was virtually unaffected.

New York and New Jersey have been completely devastated. According to a CNN report today, certain city residents are looking forward to the race and feel that it will unite and uplift city residents. Others, particularly from Brookly and Staten Island, the hardest hit area of the city, feel that it is wrong. According to CNN, Brooklyn Councilman Dominic Recchia, "to host the NYC Marathon in the middle of complete devastation in parts of the city is just wrong".

Some residents in Brooklyn and Staten Island are still without food, electricity and running water.
