For students entering their freshman year this fall, a new alternative for learning is presenting itself. City On A Hill is a charter school with locations currently in the Boston area.  They are happy to announce the opening of their New Bedford school for the 2014-2015 school year.

With the current turmoil surrounding New Bedford High, charter schools can offer a great option to parents who feel their children thrive in smaller and focused environments. Their motto is “Smart is not something you are; Smart is something you become."  There is tutoring for every student and their rate for college acceptance for their graduating seniors is 100%.

City On A Hill is a public school, open to all students, and welcomes students with disabilities as well as students for whom English is not the first language.

Some facts about City On A Hill:  

City on a Hill serves students who have traditionally been underserved by the traditional public school system.  Current student enrollment reflects:

  • 82% Low Income
  • 22% Special Education
  • 5% English Language Learners
  • 98% Black or Hispanic
  • and they arrive performing significantly below grade level, at an average of two years behind in reading.
