Investors want to know that Burgo Basketball Association's upcoming $4.2 million complex will be around for a while.

That's why the BBA is asking the Dartmouth Select Board for an extended 30-year lease on the town-owned property where their current facilities are located.

The BBA has 8 years left on the current lease, however the Colorado company willing to fund the project wants at least a 20-year lease before they make a commitment.

Since the requested documents were only submitted at Monday's meeting, the Select Board will have to wait a few more weeks before making a decision.

The BBA plans to build the complex near their current outdoor basketball courts on Slocum road. The building will feature indoor basketball and volleyball courts, training rooms, and two classrooms.

President, Steve Burgo says the new facility will be a great resource for kids around the area to have fun, and stay out of trouble.

"We're doing a good job of it now, but as far as I'm concerned, we're not doing a good enough job. Until that building is done and these kids have a place to go play anytime, our job isn't finished. So, that's what we're about. That's what this lease is about," Burgo said Monday.

According to Burgo, the current BBA facility sees 1,500 kids each year from around the state.

The BBA has already raised $1 million, and is seeking the remaining $3.2 million from bank loans.
