NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford man is dead after an apparent drug overdose.

The Bristol County District Attorneys' Office says a woman at a Phillips Avenue apartment had woken up just after 1 a.m. on Sunday and found her male roommate unresponsive.

Emergency personnel pronounced the 34-year-old man dead at the scene.

The female roommate admitted to police that the two of them had used heroin earlier in the night.

The man's body has been placed in the custody of the State Medical Examiner. A toxicology will be performed to confirm the cause of death.
