Voters in New Bedford approved a Host Community Agreement for a Waterfront Casino by an overwhelming margin on Tuesday.  The final vote was 8,355 in favor, and 3,040 opposed.

According to Election officials, the turnout in New Bedford Tuesday was just over 21%.

The positive vote clears the way for developers KG Urban Enterprises to continue efforts to secure the third and final casino license to be awarded by the Mass. Gaming Commission.

KG Urban hopes to build a $650 million resort casino at the former Cannon Street power station.  The City of Brockton is also vying for the southeastern Massachusetts license.

The Gaming Commission is expected to award the "Region C" license later this year .
