Sad to say the Southcoast is home to two of the FBI's most violent cities and towns in Massachusetts.

The FBI released it's 2014 crime statistics this week and although across the country violent crime did decrease over last year's numbers, things still don't look that great for a few local cities and towns.

In fact, for the state of Massachusetts, New Bedford is the most violent city with Fall River just behind in the #2 slot.

For New Bedford the statistics show 12.6 violent crimes for every 1,000 city residents.

Close behind is Fall River with 11.6 violent crimes per 1,000 city residents.

As GoLocalWorcester.com pointed out, not every city and town reports and the statistics are compiled per capita, so smaller cities with high crime will end up at the top of the list.

To put that in perspective, Boston had just 7.25 violent crimes per 1,000 city residents.

Still the top two spots are presumably not where New Bedford and Fall River want to be for the overall state.

Other notable cities cracking the 2014 Top 50 Most Violent Cities and Towns in Massachusetts are:

#22 - Wareham

#31 - Fairhaven

#39 - Taunton

#46 - Falmouth
