A 16-year-old New Bedford boy was stabbed in the face early Sunday morning during a fight in downtown Providence.

The Providence Journal reports that a 16-year-old teenager from New Bedford was stabbed just before 3 a.m. during a fight at Chestnut and Friendship Streets near the Colosseum nightclub.

Police posted in the area for club closings were breaking up a disturbance in a parking lot a few blocks away when they heard about the stabbing. However when they got to the scene, the teen had already been rushed away by friends.

The fleeing vehicle's description was called in to other local authorities and the car was pulled over a short time later on I-195 heading towards Massachusetts.

An ambulance then brought Deblia-Williams to Hasbro Children's Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The teen told officers he had come to Providence aboard a party bus.

The stabbing is under investigation.
