New Bedford Superintendent Contract Renewed For Three Years

School Committee members voted late Monday night to extend New Bedford Public Schools Superintendent's contract.

School Committee continued their support of Dr. Pia Durkin by voting for a 3 year contract that will top out at $195,000 a year.  Durkin has had a tumultuous relationship with the teacher's union during her time here in New Bedford, but supporters say that her tactics are simply a part of the change that is needed at New Bedford Public Schools.

Durkin pledged to continue to change the school system for the better.
