Readers Digest recently published an article naming the weirdest roadside attractions in each state. And when it comes to Massachusetts, the winner is an attraction right here in New Bedford.

According to rd.com, the Moby Dick statue near the New Bedford waterfront is the weirdest attraction you'll find in all of Massachusetts. This statue is something you may have driven by many times without even noticing. It is on MacArthur Drive, near the entrance to the Cuttyhunk Ferry terminal.

Actually, this sculpture is not that large, and really doesn't seem that weird.

Artist Donna Dodson created the Moby Dick sculpture in honor of the City's whaling history. As stated on Destination New Bedford, the artist considers the statue a tribute to Moby Dick author Herman Melville.

I think if we were to look around other places here on the SouthCoast, or anywhere in the Bay State, we would find attractions weirder than the Moby Dick statue. The giant seahorse in Mattapoisett may not be more weird, but it is certainly more visible. There's also the Paper House in Rockport, and the Bewitched statue in Salem. They might qualify as just a bit weirder than our New Bedford statue.
