Many newspapers here in Southeastern Massachusetts will soon be run by the same company.   Yesterday, Rupert Murdoch's News corp. announced that it has sold it's Dow Jones Local Media Group, which owns 33 publications including the New Bedford Standard-Times and the Cape Cod Times.

The company will be managed by Gatehouse Media Inc., the company that owns the Fall River Herald News, the Taunton Gazette, and weekly publications in Westport, Swansea and other areas.    It's not yet known if having these papers run by the same company will lead to consolidation of positions.

Like most newspapers, the dailies here in Southeastern Mass have struggled.   According to the Alliance for Audited Media, the Standard Times Sunday circulation is down 26% since march 2009.   In Fall River, the Herald News Sunday circulation is down 25% since March 2009.
