The state charitable group called The Massachusetts Child is giving school nurses in New Bedford a grant of nearly $2,000 to help provide warm clothes and educational materials to some of the district's neediest children.

It's estimated that this grant will help about 200 students. The money will be used to buy winter coats, hats, gloves and educational materials. The orgainzation feels that the school's nurses are in a good position to identify which students most need the assistance.

It's estimated that more than 500 children in New Bedford are homeless.
