New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell and other elected officials gathered on the steps of City Hall Wednesday morning, to remember those killed, and those who survived during the 9-11 attacks twelve years ago.

Mayor mitchell said Americans will never forget the images of hijacked planes crashing into the World Trade Center in New York....the aircraft crashing into the Pentagon, and the airliner going down in Pennsylvania.

The Mayor and others also recognized the heroism of the first responders, who ran towards the smoke and flames, and not away from it.

New Bedford Veterans Agent Chris Gomes raised the American flag outside City Hall during the playing of the National Anthem.  Gomes lost his right leg to an "improvised explosive device"  while serving in Iraq during the War on Terror.
