Broad daylight didn't stop a robbery attempt at the Quick Pic on Cottage Street New Bedford today. Police say were called at 10:20 this morning after they say 25 year old Rashid Hazzard grabbed the Quick Pic cashier and demanded money. The worker grabbed a baseball bat from behind the counter and tried to push the Hazzard away, but lost the bat in the struggle. The suspect pushed the clerk back with the bat...and ran away.

The worker was able to follow Hazzard back to his home on Willis Street...where police arrested him minutes later. Hazzard was arraigned this afternoon in New Bedford District Court and charged with unarmed assault with intent to rob and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (baseball bat).
