NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police have arrested four people following an investigation into a cocaine distribution service being run out of an Acushnet Avenue apartment.

New Bedford Police spokesman Lt. Nathaniel Rodriguez says the department's Gang Unit located two targets of the investigation, Rashawn Gray, 21, of 1566 Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford, and Shakimm Gray, of the same address, outside of the same apartment on Tuesday.

Rashawn Gray, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, was immediately arrested. A search of his person yielded a loaded .25 caliber firearm in his possession.

Rashawn and Shakimm Gray were escorted inside of the apartment at 1566 Acushnet Avenue as detectives carried out a search warrant. In the home, police found two other people, Rashaun Hart, 24, and Jycaria Connor, 18, both also of 1566 Acushnet Avenue.
As a result of a search of the apartment, police uncovered a 9mm firearm, multiple digital scales, and cut plastic bags.

Police arrested all four occupants of the apartment.

Arrested and charged are:

  • Rashawn Gray, 21, of 1566 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford, on charges of carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, and receiving stolen property.
  • Shakimm Gray, 23, of 1566 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford, on charges of possessing a firearm without an FID, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and receiving stolen property.
  • Rashaun L. Hart (not pictured), 24, of 1566 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford, on charges of possession of a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, receiving stolen property, and improper storage of a large capacity firearm.
  • Jycaria Connor, 18, of 1566 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford, on charges of possession of a firearm without an FID, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and receiving stolen property.
