NEW BEDFORD - A report of a gunshot in New Bedford's West End turns out to be only partly true.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Monday, New Bedford Police received a report of a single shot fired on Maxfield Street.

Police responded to the area and recovered one shell casing.

However, New Bedford Police Department spokesman, Lt. Amos Melo, tells WBSM News the round that was fired was likely a simunition round, more commonly known as a blank.

Police are searching for two suspects in connection with the incident. They're described as a white male wearing a pink sweatshirt and a black male wearing a black hoodie. They were both seen riding a BMX-style bicycle.

Anyone with information is asked to call New Bedford Police at 508-991-6300, the anonymous tip line at 508-992-7463, or email tip@newbedfordpd.com.
