A black, four-door vehicle with tinted windows was seen speeding away from a weekend shooting in New Bedford.

A 23-yer-old man, who is not being identified, was shot late Saturday near the basketball court at Magnett Park in the West End.  He was treated for the gunshot wound to his lower back and released from Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Detective Capt. Steve Vicente said the shooting occurred around 10 p.m. and witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots which they believed were fireworks.    Stray bullets also hit the side of a building at the Bedford Townhouses on Ash Street and a car on Elm Street.

However, ShotSpotter, the city's gunshot detection system, did not detect multiple gunshots, Vicente said.

The shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been made.
