New Bedford Police are investigating shots fired early Sunday morning outside a north end pharmacy. 

Police responded to the Rite-Aid Pharmacy at 2170 Acushnet Ave. at approximately 2:26 a.m. Sunday morning, according to a news release.

Two residents in the area reported they saw a gray or green Jeep Laredo with four occupants at the traffic light at Tarkiln Hill Road and Acushnet Ave..

According to witnesses, a person in the rear passenger seat wearing a white plastic mask stuck a black handgun out the window and began firing in the direction bushes in front of the pharmacy.

The front door window of pharmacy was shattered by a bullet and a spent shell casing was found on the floor of the Rite-Aid. The caliber was not immediately determined.
