NEW BEDFORD - The New Bedford Police Department is looking to grow their ranks with new recruits.

The department is announcing informational classes for anyone that may be interested in becoming a New Bedford Police Officer.

The informational sessions are taking place throughout the month of February at several locations throughout the city:

  • Buttonwood Park Community Center, February 2, 6-8 P.M.
  • Brooklawn Park Senior Center, February 11, 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. and 6-8 P.M.
  • Fort Taber Community Center, February 16, 6-8 P.M.

The police exam is scheduled for March 25, and the deadline to apply is February 21.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old with a clean criminal record. They must also be a New Bedford resident in good physical health and able to pass a psychological exam.

Successful candidates will be required to complete six months of police academy training.
