New Bedford Police Conduct Crime Sweep, Net 13 People in Nine Hours

New Bedford Police charge over a dozen people as part of a city sweep of street-level drug and other criminal offenders.

Lt. Amos Melo tells WBSM News the arrests were made within a nine-hour period Monday by the Department's Narcotics and Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau. "So they conducted some surveillance throughout the North End and the center part of the city which resulted in 13 arrests," said Lt. Melo.

Lt. Melo noted the arrests are somewhat different from the raids that often seize massive amounts of drugs and cash. "As much as the larger seizures and the raids that we do are great, the indiscreet, which is the retail street-level dealing, are what plagues our city streets," explained Lt. Melo. "I mean, this is what we all see on a day-to-day basis."

Nine New Bedford residents, a Fairhaven man, a Mattapoisett woman, an Acushnet man, and a Wareham man face multiple charges related to drugs and sexual crimes:

• Christine Fegan, 26, of 13 Antassawamock Road, Mattapoisett,  possession of class A substance with intent to distribute, (heroin), possession of class B substance (Suboxone) with intent to distribute.

• Jermaine Morales, 36, of 107 Bates St., New Bedford, distribution of class A substance (heroin), possession of class A substance (heroin) with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws, distribution of class A substance (heroin), conspiracy to violate drug laws, distribution of a class A substance within a school zone (Lincoln School.)

• Ricardo Figueroa, 38, of 239 Sandwich Rd., Wareham, possession of class A substance (heroin), conspiracy to violate drug laws.

• Douglas G. Nunes, 40, 184 Glennon St. Apt. #3N, New Bedford, possession of class A substance (heroin), possession of class B substance (Suboxone), possession of class E substance (Buspirone).

• Marissa Nogueira, 22, of 272 Nash Road, Apt. 1, New Bedford, possession of class B substance (crack cocaine), conspiracy to violate drug laws.

• Richard J. Campbell, 45, of 314 Chancery St., New Bedford, possession of class A substance (heroin) with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws.

• Corey C. Pina, 48, of 1305 Pleasant St., New Bedford, possession of class A substance (heroin), possession of class B substance, conspiracy to violate drug laws.

• Nicole Resendez Docanto, 26, of 510 Ashley Blvd. Apt. 1, New Bedford, sexual conduct for a fee.

• Jose Sanches, 42, 3 Laura Lane, Fairhaven, sexual conduct for a fee.

• Jacob Matos, 20, of 45 Guillotte St., Acushnet, possession of class B substance (cocaine), conspiracy to violate drug laws.

• Damien Joel Debarros, 20, 16 Bentley St. Apt. 1, New Bedford, unlawful possession of ammunition.

• Chanel Vachon Williams, 19, 69 Austin St., New Bedford, unlawful possession of ammunition.

• Joe Devon Williams, 44, 195 Bates St. Apt. 3, New Bedford, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of class B substance (cocaine) with intent to distribute.
