New Bedford Police: City Man High While Driving, Carrying Loaded Gun

NEW BEDFORD - A New Bedford man is arrested after police pulled his vehicle over and found a fully loaded gun.

New Bedford Police say officers stopped 19-year-old Trentin Joshua Marshal Cruz of New Bedford on Route 18 North near Potomska Street Thursday night after he was seen swerving and crossing the double yellow line.

As officers questioned Cruz, they detected a strong odor of marijuana from inside the car. Cruz was determined to be under the influence of the drug.

Police searched Cruz and his vehicle and found a fully loaded handgun with 17 rounds of ammunition in the car. Cruz is not licensed to own or carry a gun.

Cruz is charged with operating under the influence of drugs, carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of a large capacity magazine, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation.
