NEW BEDFORD - A New Orleans native is arrested in New Bedford in connection to a murder in The "Big Easy."

According to court documents, New Bedford Police arrested Wallace Gilmore, 41, at a drug treatment program in New Bedford on Tuesday after learning that the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the U.S. Marshal's Office in Boston were looking for Gilmore in connection to the June 7 murder of Danny "Disco" Nelson, 36, in New Orleans. Nelson was found on a street several miles west of the French Quarter suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on that date.

Police logs indicate Gilmore, who has an address at 5 Apple Street in Wareham, was arrested on a fugitive from justice charge, as he is wanted by New Orleans Police on a second degree murder charge.

Gilmore was arraigned in New Bedford District Court where he waived rendition and was ordered held without bail on the fugitive from justice charge. His case has been continued until February 23 for a status report.

Gilmore is expected to be formally charged with Nelson's shooting death when he returns to Louisiana. Officials have 120 days from his arrest for Gilmore to be indicted by a grand jury.
